Cutting board care instructions
Care instructions for your MISAKI cutting board
A high-quality wooden cutting board is not only a practical kitchen utensil, but also a durable piece of nature. To ensure your MISAKI cutting board retains its beauty and functionality for many years, we recommend the following care instructions.
Cleaning: Please only by hand
Always rinse your board after use with warm water and, if necessary, with a little mild detergent.
- Never put in the dishwasher
- Do not soak in water
- Do not use aggressive cleaning agents
Immediately after washing, dry the board with a clean cloth. Then place it upright to allow it to air dry all over.
Oil regularly for long-lasting protection
To prevent the wood from drying out and cracking, you should oil your cutting board once or twice a month .
Here's how:
- Use a food-safe maintenance oil such as pure mineral oil or a special cutting board oil
- Apply the oil evenly with a soft cloth
- Let it absorb for at least 20 minutes
- Wipe off any excess oil with a clean cloth
What to do if it is deformed?
Wood is a living material. Moisture or one-sided drying can cause it to warp slightly. If your board becomes warped, you can easily straighten it:
- Place the board with the curve facing upwards on a flat surface
- Weigh it down overnight with a heavy, hard object
- The wood should then realign itself
Remove scratches
Small cuts and signs of wear can be easily smoothed out:
- Carefully sand the affected area with fine sandpaper (e.g. 240 grit)
- Then clean the board thoroughly
- Re-oil it as described above
Further information
- Avoid extreme heat or direct sunlight
- Do not use the board to cut hard bones or as a striking surface
- Clean it especially carefully after contact with raw meat or fish
